Music is not only my passion, it is my obsession. It is something that is very technical, but should also be a lot of fun. I believe that one should have fun, no matter their age, when learning music. It is my primary goal, to make sure that happens. If there is fun, then learning will always come easier. Music is a discpline that is good for everyone to learn as it exercises the entire brain at the same time. This is why I believe that it is never too late to learn music.
When I teach music, I try to be well rounded about it. I teach ear training, theory and sight reading all at the same time. I believe it's vital to learn to play by ear, as well as to learn all of the notes in the musical alphabet and where they live on the music staff.
I have attended Douglas College and received a one year certificate in Basic Musicianship. I have also completed 2 years of my B. Music from Douglas College. I am currently in the process of completing my final course for my B. Arts with a major in music.
I have studied piano since I was 6 years old, completing many grades of RCM. While at Douglas College, I was a piano major, playing at the ARCT level. As I was studying for my B. Arts, I was a voice major and studied in Italian, French, Latin, German and Portuguese.
For almost 5 years, I owned and operated my own music school in the Kootenays of BC, where I taught, piano, drums, voice and guitar, as well as directed a children's choir that performed frequently in the community.
I have also volunteered my time as a musician in my local church and community.
