I believe that music is something that is natural in every person, just everyone has different challenges when embracing and learning those skills. As long as my students are passionate about the music they are creating, we can do great work together.
I strive for a strong balance between encouragement and honesty. While I will highlight my student's strengths to ensure they remain confident and excited to improve, I will also ensure that they are aware of what they need to improve upon and what we can do to make that happen. Teaching is a two way street. I have many solutions to many different technical problems and learning obstacles, but students, especially older ones, should be prepared to put in the work.
I am currently pursuing my BFA in Music Performance and Composition at York University.
I have studied voice for a decade and a half and I am proficient in advanced music theory and vocal technique among multiple genres, primarily jazz and musical theatre, as well as other contemporary styles like pop, rock, and country.
I have taught music to students as young as 5, as well as adults for multiple years and worked as a summer camp music director for 2 years.
I have performed in community and school musicals since I was 7, and began taking private voice lessons at 12. I've had 3 main coaches over the years and have gone to countless masterclasses to learn new techniques and approaches to singing, as well as teaching. I started learning jazz and other contemporary styles halfway through high school. I currently spend most of my free time practicing, writing, and recording for voice as well as multiple instruments.
